Officiating at the rites will be Msgr. Dean Walker, Pastor. Friends will be pallbearers. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning after 3 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Stangl is survived by his parents, Arved and Mary (McGrath) Stangl; three brothers: Michael, Thomas, and David, Manning; two sisters, Catherine Stangl, Titonka, and Teresa Stangl, Madison, Wisconsin; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alver Stangl of Dedham, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family suggests that friends may, if they wish, contribute to a fund to be used to provide football scholarships.
Mr. Stangl was born March 23, 1958, at Carroll. He graduated from Manning Community High School in 1977 and from Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny, in 1978. He was employed by the Rattenburg Construction Company of Ross, Iowa. He had been an outstanding football player for Manning High.
The late-evening accident apparently occurred when Stangl came in contact with electrical wires while working on the roof. There were no witnesses to the accident which occurred on the Amos Asmus farm.
Son of Arved and Mary (McGrath) Stangl, John was born March 23, 1958, and passed away August 20, 1979.
