JOHN D. SCHELDORF

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 2, at the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church for John D. Scheldorf. Rev. E.G. Otte, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was in the Westside Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Jans, L.C. Thiedeman, Alfred Kaspersen, Fred Lohrmann, William O. Stoelk, and Harry Schroeder. Irene Rohwer, church organist, accompanied the choir with two hymns, "In the City Foursquare" and "Going Down the Valley One by One."

John Detlef Scheldorf was born March 24, 1871, near Bryant. He died at Westside December 30, 1950. Son of Detlef and Margaret (Suhr) Scheldorf, he was the second oldest of five brothers and one sister. When a small boy his parents moved with the family to Carroll County and Sac County. His mother died when he was nine. When 15 years old he came to Crawford County, locating on a farm near Westside, where he spent 42 years of his life. He moved to Westside five years ago. He was married to Emma Ohde, September 5, 1900. To this union nine children were born, five sons and four daughters. Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Scheldorf had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 5, 1950.

He is survived by his widow, nine children, Marvel of Chicago; Viola, Mrs. Leo Shouse of Omaha; Ronald of Oaklyn, New Jersey; Rufert, Air Force Camp, Stoneman, California; Wilbur of Houston, Texas; Ellen, Mrs. Leo Gilbert, of Portland, Oregon; Anna, Mrs. Richard Underwood, of East Hampton, Massachusetts; Owen of Erie, Pennsylvania; and Emily, at home; nine grandchildren and one step-brother, Richard Toll, of Wolbach, Nebraska.

Mr. Scheldorf was a member of St. John's Evangelical Reformed Church at Westside.

Out of town attendants at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Scheldorf and son, Jay, of Chicago; Mrs. Leo Shouse of Omaha; Ranald Scheldorf of Oaklyn, New Jersey; Master Sergeant Rufert G. Scheldorf of Camp Stoneman, California; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Scheldorf of Houston, Texas; Mrs. R.F. Underwood of East Hampton, Massachusetts; Owen Scheldorf of Erie, Pennsylvania; Emily Scheldorf of Manning; Mr. and Mrs. William Ohde, Sr. of Manning; Mrs. Mary Wilken; Mr. and Mrs. James Howorth of Denison; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Toll; Mrs. Alvina Brandt and daughter, Helen, and Harry Brown of Wolbach, Nebraska.

Mrs. Leo Gilbert of Portland, Oregon, was unable to attend the funeral.
