John Ramsey
Funeral service for John "Jack" Ramsey was held Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Marshall Brown officiating with Mar-shall Brown as vocalist and Connie Siepker as pianist. Interment with military honors from the American Legion Emil Ewoldt Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 were held at the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Jack's grandchildren: Kent Pfannkuch, Kurt Pfannkuch, Todd Ramsey, Renee Willenborg, Heather Ramsey and Eric Ramsey as casket bearers. Honorary casketbearers were Jack's great-grandchildren: Dylan Pfannkuch, Tory Pfannkuch, Tanya Ramsey, Rebecca Ramsey, Roxanne Willenborg, Kendra Willenborg, Marissa Willenborg and Ericka Willenborg. Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
John "Jack" LaRue, son of Charles H. and Bessie (Johnson) Ramsey, was born November 20, 1923, at home in Manning, Iowa. He attended Manning Community Schools and, except for his time in the service, was a life-long Manning resident.
During World War II, Jack was drafted into the United States Army. He entered service at Camp Dodge in Des Moines in March of 1942 and was honorably discharged later that same year. Jack was united in marriage with Edna M. Pfannkuch on December 5, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska. Jack worked as a truck driver for Ramsey Transfer for 15 years and hauled milk for the Manning Creamery, also for 15 years. He was a manager with Union Gas for 15 years. After retirement in 1985, he worked as a courier for Manning Regional Healthcare Center.
Jack was a member of the American Legion Emil Ewoldt Post 22 and served with the Manning Fire Department. He was a member and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church. Jack and Edna enjoyed Belles and Beaux square dancing together. Jack also loved to fish and play cards.
Due to failing health, Jack became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in August of 2004. He died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center early on Monday, October 10, 2005, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 20 days.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers Edward, Mayburn, and Ralph Ramsey; sisters Nancy (in infancy), Edna Peters, Thelma Hodne, Juanita Boeck and Bernice Laverty.
Jack is survived wife, Edna; four sons: Keith Pfannkuch and wife Marilyn of Manning; John Ramsey Jr. and wife Lois of Manning; Charles Ramsey of Omaha, Nebraska; Lynn Ramsey and wife Kathleen of Granger; six grand-children: Kent Pfannkuch and wife Sharon; Kurt Pfannkuch; Todd Ramsey and wife Diane; Renee and husband Rick Willenborg; Heather Ramsey and Eric Ramsey; eight great-grandchildren; brother Orren Ramsey of Manning; sister Mary Ramsey of Manning; sisters-in-law Dolores Ramsey of Manning and Mildred Ramsey of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
