John Oppermann
OBITUARY
John D. Oppermann was born in Germany March 18th, 1835, and died April 16th, 1906,
aged 71 years and 29 days.
He was married to Marthalena Hansen in 1866, eight children being born to them, seven of whom are still living, namely, William, Henry, John, Herman, Annie, Hattie and Tracy. He moved to America with his family in 1872 and settled in Davenport and from there they moved to Clinton where they resided for six years when they moved to Crawford County where they have since made there home. All the children were in attendance at the funeral. Mrs. Putzbar of Clinton, a niece of Mr. Oppermann, and her son Willie were also among those present at the funeral.
John D. Oppermann was a kind and loving father and husband, was thrifty, and honest in his dealings with others, whose integrity could not be questioned. His loss is severely felt by the wife and children who survive him. To them is extended the sincere sympathy of the community.
We miss thee from our home, dear husband
We miss thee from thy place,
A shadow o'er our life is cast,
We miss the sunshine of thy face:
We miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care;
Our home is dark without thee
We miss thee everywhere.
The vacant place, the empty chair,
We see them day by day;
And on, it fills our hearts with care,
Since our loved one went away
But though the light has left us here,
Like the setting of the sun,
We'll trust Thee ever, Father dear,
And say "Thy will be done."
