John Ohrt Rites Held Wednesday
Friends and relatives were grieved to learn of the death of Mr. John Ohrt who passed away Sunday at his home here following a long illness. He was a long-time resident and prominent citizen of this community.

John Ohrt was born at Feddringer, Germany, on April 21, 1865, and passed away at his home on December 4, 1938, at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 13 days. He was sick for one and a half years prior to his departure. Mr. Ohrt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He came to this country in 1882 at the age of seventeen and settled near Westside, Iowa. Mr. Ohrt was married to Miss Katherine Frahm on October 10, 1895. The couple started farming in Carroll County and later moved south of Manning where Mr. Ohrt bought a farm in Audubon County. Later a farm was bought northwest of Manning where the family lived until the retirement of Mr. Ohrt in 1922 when they moved to Manning.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ohrt, three girls and two boys. One son, George (1901-02), died in infancy. Those who survive are Hulda, Mrs. William Ruhde; Lillian, Mrs. Clarence Kuhse; Julius Ohrt; Mildred, Mrs. Vernon Plummer. All of the children reside in Manning. Ten grandchildren also remain besides three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Albert Fonken of Texas, Mrs. Henry Biehl of Manning, Hans Ohrt, Henry Ohrt, and Miss Dora Ohrt of Manning.

Funeral services were held at the Ohde Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Alexander Wimberly of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.

The thought of the sermon was the "Submission to God." A vocal quartet offered two selections.

The remains were laid to rest in the Manning Cemetery. Acting as Pallbearers were P.H. Jones, Jens Sonksen, Julius Wehrmann, Carl Hagedorn, Henry Mueller and George Mohr.

Out of town relatives attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gosch and son of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Julius, Hagge of Sac City, Mr. William Burgloff of Claremont, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Spack of Deloit, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ludwig, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Spack all of Denison, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Joachimsen of Manilla.

In the original obituary it was printed as "ac" City which I assumed should be Sac City.
