John, son of John and Margaret (Fries) Meeves, was born December 20, 1901, near Arion, Iowa. He attended country school and Arion school. On December 1, 1931, he was united in marriage with Goldie Stammer in the Presbyterian Church in Denison. They farmed in the Manning area and then for many years just north of Aspinwall. In January 1975, they moved to Manning.

During the years he was farming until his retirement in 1975, John also sold insurance for the Home Mutual Insurance Company of Manning.

Failing health forced John to move to the nursing home this spring. He died at the Manning Plaza on Monday, November 10, 1980, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a son and daughter, twins, who died in infancy; and by four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife Goldie; by a son Roland, Manning, and by a daughter Myra, Mrs. James Wittrock, Manning; and by 12 grandchildren.
