JOHN J. NISSEN

Funeral services for John J. Nissen were held at the United Methodist Church in Manning on Monday, April 3, 1978, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Donald Jones officiated. Judy Joens was soloist and Dorothy Kusel was organist. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery with Richard Dammann, Gerald Schroeder, Dr. Walter Felker (note: in the original Monitor obituary it listed Donald Felker but it is believed that it should be Walter Felker who was a local Manning Veterinarian), Duane Wegner, Ron Meisel and Allen Nissen as casketbearers.

John Jacob, son of Johannes and Louisa (Kruse) Nissen, was born June 3, 1900, in Crawford County, Iowa. He attended the rural schools near his home and was united in marriage with Velma Bingham on December 23, 1925. They farmed near Manilla and Manning until moving to Manning in 1932. Jack worked for the Manning Creamery Company for 35 years, and for Dr. Robert Dappen for 7 years. He retired about 3 years ago.

Jack was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manning. He passed away at the Manning General Hospital Friday morning, March 31, 1978, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by three brothers, Ernest, Alfred and George.

He is survived by his wife, Velma; by one daughter, Myna, Mrs. Herbert Roberts, Leawood, Kansas; by two granddaughters, Nancy Roberts, New York City, New York, and Linda Roberts, San Francisco, California; by the following sisters and brother, Mrs. Alma Schroeder, Aspinwall, Minnie Nissen, Fairmont, Minnesota, Charles Nissen, Manning, and Rose Nissen, Fairmont, Minnesota; as well as by many other relatives and friends.


John Nissen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
