Joan Vogl was born on October 23, 1942, to Felix and Hilda Vogl on a farm southeast of Manning. She attended all 13 years of school at Manning, graduating with the class of 1960.
After graduation, Joan journeyed to Omaha and began working for Mutual of Omaha. She remained at that job, eventually becoming a supervisor before her death.

On November 16, 1968, Joan was married to Richard Malone from Omaha. Their daughter, Mamie, arrived in 1970.
On Joan's 35th birthday, she suffered a heart attack and had open heart surgery in January of 1979. Joan died of a massive heart attack on July 12, 1979, at the age of 36 years, 9 months, and 11 days. She is buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning.
