Funeral services for Jay Mohr, 39, of Sibley were held Saturday, September 20, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley, Iowa. Reverend Howard Vranken officiated the service. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, at 4:30 p.m. with Reverend Curt Dwyer officiating. Andringa Funeral Home of Sibley was in charge of arrangements.

Jay Mohr, son of Russell and Joan Rowedder Mohr, was born on September 13, 1958 in Carroll, Iowa. He lived his youth on a farm near Manning, Iowa, and was very active in the Manning school. He also attended the Iowa Lakes Community College.

He was united in marriage to Julie Mitchell of Spirit lake, Iowa, formerly of Ruthven, Iowa, on March 26, 1983 at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They lived in Okoboji, Iowa; Carroll, Iowa; Lake Park, Iowa; and Spirit Lake, Iowa, where Jay worked in all areas of the newspaper business. They moved to Sibley, Iowa, in 199C where Jay was in partnership with Jerry Wiseman in the Gazette Tribune newspaper as an editor and publisher.

Jay was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sibley where he was vice president of the church council and on the church logo board. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, volunteer fire department, Gazette Tribune bowling team, chamber of commerce, Off Broadway, Iowa Newspaper Association and the Sibley Golf and Country Club. He was a former member of the Jaycees of Spirit Lake, Lake Park, and Carroll, Iowa, and a colonel of Hawkeye Corps.

He passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 1997, at the Osceola Community Hospital of Sibley at the age of 39 years and 3 days.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Christina Mohr, and John and Ella Rowedder, and mother-in-law, Hazel Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Julie, of Sibley, Iowa; a daughter, Jaselyn Christina Mohr, of Sibley, Iowa; his parents, Russ and Joan Mohr of Manning, Iowa; his brothers: Jim and his wife, Cherrie Mohr, and their children: Ryan, Chris, Justin, Adam and Megan of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and Jeff Mohr and his children: Julie, Nichole and McKenzie of Carroll, Iowa; a sister, Rhonda Mohr of Cypres, Texas; sister-in-law, Glenda Gustafson and her children: Troy of Tucson, Arizona; and Shawn of Loveland, Colorado; brother-in-law Calvert Mitchell and his children: Ashley, Tyler and Caleb of Emmetsburg, Iowa; foreign exchange sisters: Michelle Hughes of Woodford Queensland, Australia and Åsa Jacobson of Sweden; and many relatives and friends.


Jay Mohr is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
