Mr. Ward died at his home on Monday, April 27, 1987. He had been in ill health for the past several years.
The Rev. Frank Christ of the First Presbyterian Church in Manilla will officiate the service. Music will be provided by Kay Rutherford, vocalist, and Barb Agan, organist.
Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin. Casket bearers will be Bob Georgius, Louie Schwiesow, Larry Farley, Jim Benning, Jerry Rutherford, and Cliff Waterbury. Honorary casket bearers will be Jay Rutherford, Lynn Rutherford, and Mike Naeve.
The son of Rollin and Effie (Berry) Ward, he was born in Missouri on October 7, 1911. He moved with his family to the Botna area where he attended country school.
He operated a small trucking business in the early 1940s, and in the mid-1940s he was a partner with Lyle Anthony, operating J & L Tavern at 314 Main Street in Manning.
He married Phyllis Rodenberg at Omaha.
They lived in West Des Moines for several years where Mr. Ward worked in the construction business as an electrical high line operator. In 1974, he retired and they moved to Manilla.
Besides his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by his children: Carol Ann Raymond and her husband, Larry, of New Hampshire, Carolyn Rutherford and her husband, Tom, of Manilla and John Ward, at home in Manilla; two step-children, Linda Naeve of Ankeny and Janet Close of Des Moines; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Archie Ward of Harlan; and a sister, Rhoda Jeck of Rogers, Arkansas.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents: a daughter (Helen Jean Ward) in infancy and a brother, Winifred.
