Janet M. Stam, 78, of Knoxville died of cancer Monday at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin.

Mrs. Stam was born in Coon Rapids and had lived in Michigan and Idaho before moving to Knoxville in 1998. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; four sons, Denny Gaul of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Gary Gaul of Edmond, Okla., Dale McDonald of Denver, Colo., and John McDonald of Perris, Calif.; a daughter, Sue Gross of Westphalia; a stepson, Carl Stam of Clive; two sisters, Alice Broude of Los Angeles and Mary Kay Mendez of Holly, Mich.; two bothers, Pat Stangl of Ottumwa and Oswald "Barney" of Knoxville; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. and where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
