James R. Spear

James R. Spear, son of Agnes and James Spear, was born in Douglas County, South Dakota, November 27, 1884, and passed away at his home in Manning, January 25, 1952, after being bedfast with a heart condition for nine weeks, at the age of 67 years, 1 month, and 28 days.

When a child he moved to Audubon County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Bertha M. Silverwood on December 22, 1909. Four years of their married life was spent in South Dakota and the remainder was spent on a farm in this vicinity until November 28, 1949, when they moved to their present home in Manning.

To this union two children were born, Lillian at home and Leola, Mrs. Raymond Gray, of Alexandria, Minnesota.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, two daughters and two grandchildren, his aged mother of Turton, South Dakota, one sister, Mrs. James Quigley of Redfield, Iowa, four brothers, Albert and Willis of Turton, South Dakota, Ralph of Ashton, South Dakota and Burl of Monroe, South Dakota and a number of nieces and nephews, a host of friends and other relatives.

His father, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Ohde Funeral Home on Monday afternoon, January 28, 1952. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Manning Cemetery. The Rev. W.P. Gauer officiated.

Pall bearers were Ed Erps, Ralph Berkheimer, Andrew Jensen, Art Hansen, William C. Schrum, and William Joens.
