James, son of Mayburn and Phyllis Laverty Ramsey, was born June 4, 1936, in Manning, Iowa. He spent his entire life in Manning, graduating from Manning High School in 1955. After graduation he joined his father and uncle in the trucking business. On February 16, 1958, Jim was united in marriage with Barbara Davis at the Presbyterian Church in Denison.

After his father's death in 1973 Jim worked with his mother, assuming ownership of the trucking business in January of 1991.

Supporting his children in their school activities was very important to Jim. He enjoyed bowling in his spare time, loved being with people, and basically devoted his life to the trucking business.

Jim had not felt well and entered the Manning General Hospital two weeks before his death there on Sunday, April 28, 1991, at the age of 54 years, 10 months, and 24 days.

Besides his father he was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of Manning; his children: Robert Ramsey; Cathy and her husband, Rob Dammann; Chuck Ramsey and his wife, Barbara; Jennifer Ramsey; and Debra Ramsey, all of Manning; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ramsey; his mother, Mrs. Phyllis Ramsey, of Manning; a sister, Pat and her husband, Jim Drees, of Manning; the following aunts and uncles: Mildred and Ralph Ramsey, of Carroll; Edward and Dolores Ramsey, of Manning; Orren and Fern Ramsey, of Manning; Bernice Laverty, of Manning; Jack and Edna Ramsey, of Manning; Thelma Hodne, of Manning; Mary Ramsey, of Manning; Juanita Boeck, of Harlan; Harold and Sara Barlow, of New York; Mrs. Lois Laverty, of New Market; and Betty and Burton Schrum, of Norton, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
