Jaenice Emma Popp

Funeral services for Jaenice Emma Popp were held Saturday, September 14, 1996, 2:30 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, Iowa. Reverend Larry McAlpine of the United Methodist Church, Manning, officiated the service with Carlys Stribe, organist, and Georgia Lohrmann, vocalist. Interment was held in the Manning City Cemetery with Russell Popp, Mark Popp, Ron Popp, Jeff Bauer, James Bauer and Bob Zobol as casketbearers.

Jaenice, daughter of Albert and Elsie (Klindt) Stoelk, was born July 7, 1924, on the home farm near Manning, in Shelby County, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home and completed her schooling as an adult. After finishing her schooling she helped out in others' homes with children and housework. On August 25, 1943, Jaenice was united in marriage with Elvin Popp in Tekamah, Nebraska. To this union, one daughter, Patsy, was born. She worked for Priebe and Sons for 10 years and then for Manning General Hospital in the dietary department for 31 years, nine of which she was supervisor. Jaenice retired in 1989.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Hospital Institution and Educational Food Service Society, Southwest Dietary Association, and the VFW Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, fancy work, and being with her friends.

Jaenice was in failing health for several years and she died at the Manning General Hospital on Thursday, September 12; 1996, at the age of 72 years, 2 months, and 5 days.

Jaenice was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Popp, in June 1987; her parents; two brothers; Leon Stoelk and Donald Stoelk; and a brother-in-law, Otto Porsch.

Jaenice is survived by her daughter, Patsy and her husband, Elbert Youngblood, Jr., of Pearsall, Texas; three grand-children: Rodney Youngblood and his wife, Tammy, of Portland, Texas; Sheila and her husband, Bill Downing, of Odessa, Texas; and Todd Youngblood and his wife, Tanya, of Pearsall, Texas; two great-grandchildren; Cassy Webb and Cody Downing; a brother, Merle Stoelk and his wife, Betty, of Manning; two sisters; Darlene Porsch of Manning, and Berdine and her husband, Orry Herbers, of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister-in-law, Phyllis and her husband, Don Wilson of Hesperia, California; a brother-in-law, Russell Popp and his wife, Margaret, of Ute, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
