JACOB MEHMEN

Jacob Mehmen, a resident of Crawford County since 1888, passed away on Wednesday morning at four o'clock, following a lingering illness. He attained the age or 74 years, 7 months and 5 days.

Jacob Janssen Mehmen was born on January 1, 1867, in Theene, Ostfriesland, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native land.

He came to America in 1887, spending the first year in Nebraska. In 1888 he came to Crawford County and farmed in Denison Township until 1912 when he moved to the present home just south of Denison.

In 1894 he was united in marriage with Miss Marie Koenekamp, who passed away in 1908. In the year 1912 he was married to Mrs. Bertha Susat who survives him. Also left to mourn is one son, Max, of Chicago, his daughter-in-law, one grandchild and two sisters residing in Germany.

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Mehmen home, Rev. C.W. Schmidt in charge of the service. Interment will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Louis Miller, William Sonnichsen, Carsten Christiansen, Henry Hansen, Hans Thies and Carl Lorenzen.
