Irene Ann, daughter of Joseph L. and Helen L. (Ratigan) Schwarte, was born January 27, 1929, at rural Earling, Iowa. She attended school in Earling and Defiance.

On February 20, 1950, Irene was united in marriage with Edwin Reischl at St. Peter's Church in Defiance. They were the parents of six children. The couple farmed near Defiance, Kirkman and south of Harlan until 1964 when they began farming near Manning. Irene was a dedicated farm wife and mother, as well as an active member at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. She was involved in the Altar Society and choir. Irene also volunteered through the American Legion Auxiliary. Through the years she enjoyed playing cards with friends and, above all, caring for her extended family. Irene took great joy in time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In 1985 they retired from farming and moved to their home in Manning. When Ed passed away in 2008, Irene continued to live there until she moved to an apartment at CharMac Assisted Living in Manning in June of 2016.

On Saturday, March 7, 2020, Irene passed away at Accura Healthcare of Manning. She was 91 years of age.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin Reischl; son Dennis Reischl; grandson Caleb Reischl; granddaughter Heather Kusel; brothers: Eugene, Dwayne, Harold and Michael Schwarte; and sisters: Sr. Madonna and Sr. Darlene.

She is survived by her children: Ron Reischl (Alison River) of Manning; Teresa Reischl of Denison; Sharon Odendahl (Joe) of Manning; John Reischl (Nancy) of Fairmont, Minnesota; Gary Reischl (Wanda) of Manning; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings: Albert Schwarte (Gay) of Defiance; Thelma Nelson of Harlan; Karen Brinker (Clarence) of Westphalia; Richard Schwarte (Myrna) of Irwin; Joe Schwarte Jr. (Vernita) of Defiance; sister-in-law Glenda Hall of Defiance; other relatives and friends.
