Funeral services for Hugo Schrum were held Tuesday, January 20, 1981, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating; Dorothy Kusel, organist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Joe Thielen, Dale Bellinghausen, Steven Musfeldt, Douglas Musfeldt, James Luetje, and Jerald Luetje as casketbearers.
Hugo, son of Marx and Margretha (Vehrs) Schrum, was born on December 2, 1901, near Manning, Carroll County, Iowa. He attended country schools in the area.
On September 19, 1923, he was united in marriage with Adelaide Wiese in Carroll, Iowa. They farmed near Manning until 1929 when they moved into Manning. Hugo worked for several businesses in Manning, including many years for Dultmeier Manufacturing. He worked for the Town of Manning for 20 years until his retirement in 1969.
His wife died August 31, 1967.
Hugo has been a resident of the Manning Plaza for several years. He entered the Manning General Hospital on Saturday and passed away there on Sunday, January 18, 1981, at the age of 79 years, 1 month, 16 days.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Delores in 1936, a daughter in infancy, three sisters, two brothers.
He is survived by four children: Mrs. Dorothea Musfeldt, Manning; Norma, Mrs. Wendell Luetje, Westside; Roy Schrum, Manning Plaza; Margaret, Mrs. Peter Thielen, Jr., Carroll; 14 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren; 2 sisters, Alvina Schroeder, South Dakota, and Amanda Schrum, Manning; one brother, Gus Schrum, Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
