OBITUARY HILDA SCHRUM

Hilda Anna (Langbehn) Schrum was born at Adair, Iowa, on June 27, 1903. She was the daughter of Henry F. and Margaretha (Lorenzen) Langbehn. She grew up in the Adair, Earlham, and Casey areas where she attended schools and was graduated from Casey High School in 1921. She attended college at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and later taught schools in the rural areas for several years.

On May 4, 1924, she married Gustav Wedemeyer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey and they farmed in Adair County until her husband's death in 1935. In 1936 she was married to Willie H. Schrum at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, where they lived for three years. They then moved southeast of Adair for several years and for seven years they lived at Casey. They again moved back southeast of Adair. Willie Preceded Hilda in death in 1977. She then lived with her children for the last few years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Ladies Aid.

Hilda is survived by one son, Glenard Wedemeyer of Adair, three daughters, Mrs. Joan Kriens of Raytown, Missouri, Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Powell of Adair, and Mrs. Betty Krogh, also of Adair; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Langbehn of Walnut, and William Langbehn of Roswell, New Mexico; nieces and nephews.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, four brothers, Fritz, Henry, Paul and Lawrence; and four sisters, Margaret Langbehn, Marie Blackmer, Cecilia McCleary and Helen Alvina in infancy.

Funeral services were held for Hilda A. Schrum, 77, Tuesday, March 17, 1981, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church at Casey, Iowa. with Rev. Kenneth Klopp officiating. Casketbearers were David Powell, Fred Turner, Allyn Monsghan, Robert Langbehn, Robert McCleary and Charles Littler. Interment was in Adair Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Mullen Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
