Hilda Otto was born on October 12, 1903, at Manning, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Kusel) Nulle. Hilda moved with her parents to rural Sisseton, SD, in 1915. She attended grade school in Sisseton through the eighth grade.
Hilda was united in marriage to Charles Otto on January 10, 1922, in Sisseton. They farmed for twenty-one years until moving to Milbank in 1943. Hilda did house cleaning and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She also took care of her father when he was ill. She worked part-time at Coast to Coast in Milbank and worked at the St. Hubert Hotel in Milbank for five years. They did a great deal of traveling and spent one winter in California with their daughter, Arlet, and family. Mr. Otto died on June 28, 1977. Hilda continued to live in her own home until 1989 when she moved to Middlebrook Circle in Milbank. She remained there until August 29, 1997, when she entered Whetstone Valley Nursing Home (now Beverly Healthcare) in Milbank. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, loved music, and enjoyed seeing her friends in the nursing home.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Lavergne Hedman and her husband, Merlyn and Eunice Trygstad and her husband, Carlyle, all of Milbank; and Arlet Nicoletti, of Campbell, California; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Hilda was preceded in death by twin sons, three sisters, Leona Miller, Edna Fuller and one in infancy; and three brothers, Rudolph and Melvin Nulle and one in infancy.
Mrs. Otto died on Wednesday, November 8, 2000, in Beverly Healthcare in Milbank, SD.
