Hilda Dorothy Nissen
On April 4, 1923 she was united in marriage with George Nissen. To this union two children, Roger and Rita were born. They made their home on a farm three miles west of Manning until retiring in October of 1958 when they moved into town. Her husband, George, died on February 12, 1977.
Hilda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ladies Guild and a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary, receiving her 50-year pin a number of years ago.
Hilda entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, Manning, Iowa, in 1994, and died there on Thursday, February 20, 1997, at the age of 100 years, 3 months, and 23 days.
Besides her husband, Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Gilbert, Ray, Roscoe, and Harry Opperman; sisters: Anna Farley, Hannah Opperman, Margaret Opperman, Bertha Kraack, and Minnie Opperman; and a son-in-law, Velie Saunders.
Hilda is survived by her children: Roger Nissen, and his wife, Alice, of Carroll; Rita Saunders, of Manning; four grandchildren: Rhonda and her husband, Marshell Crane, of Rock Valley; Becky and her husband, Mark Kapfer, of Bettendorf; David Nissen, and his wife, Caroline, of Carroll; and Randy Saunders, and his wife, Joni, of Breda; ten great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Charles Nissen, of Manning; one sister-in-law, Lillie Opperman, of Weston; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
