Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 1:30 in the Trinity Methodist Church Chapel in Grand Island by Dr. Laurence Davis, pastor. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Mr. Newquist was born August 27, 1891 at Lincoln to Charles and Anna (Svenson) Newquist. When he was a boy, the family moved to Genoa. On August 29, 1917, he was married to Agnes Matthiessen at Omaha.
They farmed for 35 years in Nance County, retiring in 1952, when they moved to Grand Island. He had been employed by the Grand Island Seed Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Doniphan.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Viola DeVisscher, Klamath, California; Mrs. Mildred DeVisscher, Sacramento, California; Mrs. Shirley Plumbtree, Grand Island, Nebraska; and Mrs. Carroll Horst, Omaha; five sons, Hilbert of Grand Island, Earl of Klamath, California; Ralph with the armed forces in Helsinki, Finland; Donald of Sultan, Washington; and Carrol of Crescent City, California; 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother Carl Newquist of Belgrade.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, one brother and one sister.
