It is profound sorrow that we at this time chronicle the death of Hermuth Schroeder, one of our most respected citizens.
He had been in ill health for several years and had undergone a couple of operations at the Rochester hospitals, hoping to receive benefit. About a year and a half ago his condition became more alarming and for the past 6 months he was bedfast.
On Sunday, February 9th he was removed to the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha where his wife and daughter remained at his bedside. His condition, however, had by this time reached a stage beyond medical skill and material means and he passed away at 9:15 Friday morning, February 14.
The deceased will be greatly missed not only by his family but also by his host of loyal friends who held him in high esteem.
Hermuth Schroeder one of the six children of Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Schroeder was born on May 17, 1884, in Crawford County, Iowa, and lived in this county practically all his life. He passed away on Friday, February 14, 1941, at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 27 days.
As a child he was baptized in the Lutheran faith, receiving his education in the Aspinwall School.
After reaching manhood, he was married on December 3, 1913, to Hilda Sievertsen. The couple began farming in Iowa Township, and for the past twenty three years farmed their own farm a short distance from Aspinwall.
To this union three children were born, Harold of Manning, Orren and Elaine at home, who are left with their mother to mourn his departure.
Other survivors are two brothers, Alfred of Manning, Elmer of Newfield, New Jersey, and two sisters, Mrs. Merle Ball of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Robert Doetger of Oceanville, Delaware, and a large number of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at the Ohde Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
Rev. Alexander Wimberly, pastor of the Presbyterian Church was in charge.
Interment was made at the Manning Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Meggers, Hubert Lamp, Charles Schroeder, Charles Pfoltner, Edward Georgius and Hans Jurgensen. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Sophia Hagedorn and Charles Hagedorn of Ethan, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Oswald Schwiz of Mitchell, South Dakota; Mrs. Leo Schoenfelder of Mitchell, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kock and Mr. and Mrs. William Duzart of Boyer, Mrs. Ella Hass and son Warren and Mr. and Mrs. David Duncan of Denison.
