HERMAN JULIUS "JUL" SCHROEDER

Funeral for Herman Julius "Jul" Schroeder was at 10 a.m. Monday, January 18, 1999, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
Mr. Schroeder, 94, died Friday, January 15, at Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, where he had lived since March 1992.
Pastors Daniel Vogel and Curt Dwyer officiated at the services. Burial was at the Manning Cemetery in Manning. Honorary casket bearers were Scott Gunderson, Mark Mohr and Brian Rankin. Casket bearers were Randal Mohr, Rick Mohr, Dirk Rawson, Robin Mohr, GayIan Schroeder and Terry Schwab. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning handled arrangements.

Born June 1, 1904, on the family farm in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. Mr. Schroeder was a son of Jasper and Alwine (Sievers) Schroeder. He was baptized on December 4, 1904, and confirmed on February 20, 1927, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

He attended rural school near his home. After completing his schooling, he remained at home to help on the family farm.

He married Naemi Grimm on November 11, 1931. They farmed near Manning on the Schroeder family farm with his brother, John. After John's death in 1952, they continued farming until 1969, when they moved to Manning.

After Mrs. Schroeder died on August 21, 1987, Mr. Schroeder remained in their home until moving to the senior-citizen apartments.

Mr. Schroeder was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. He served as a 4H leader for many years. In his younger years, he and his wife enjoyed square dancing.

Mr. Schroeder is survived by three children, Gary Schroeder and his wife, Joyce, of Manning, Gloria and her husband, Ed Higgins, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Delora and her husband, Richard Pfeiffer, of Ames; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Robert Mohr, of Oakland, Iowa; a sister, Edna Vollstedt, of Manning; and a sister-in-law, Blondina Carstens, of Manning.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother; a daughter, Myra Mohr; and four sisters, Anita Nulle, Ida Joens, Anna Tank and Laura Musfeldt.
