Herman Plahn Laid To Rest

Funeral services for long-time city employee Herman Plahn, age 76, were held Monday, June 23, 1975, at the United Church of Christ.

Mr. Plahn had worked for the city of Pierce for the past 27 years, more recently being in charge of Gilman Park.

Rev Harold Schaible officiated at the services and music was furnished by organist Mrs. Bert Garvin who accompanied Mrs. Harry Retzlaff in the singing of "in the Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross."

Burial was in Prospect View Cemetery with Raymond Altwine, Hubert Kuhl, Tedd Schott, Harold Griffiths, Robert Plahn and Warren Larson as pallbearers.

Herman Ferdinand Plahn was born November 6, 1898, at Manning, Iowa to William Plahn and has wife, Emma Koenekamp February 14, 1924, he was united in marriage to Esther Reed at Yankton, South Dakota. They have resided in Pierce since their marriage.

Mr. Plahn is survived by his wife, Esther, a son, Harold of Grafton, Virginia; two daughters, Mrs. O.J. (Delores) Thomsen of San Diego, California; and Mrs. George (Elaine) Main of Lincoln, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also a brother, Henry Plahn of Plainview and sisters, Mrs. Emma Sattler of Pierce and Mrs. Henry (Hilda) Zauner of Tilden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother.
