Herman E. Paulsen, the son of Henry, Sr. and Rosa E. (Hess) Paulsen, was born in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and died at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 28 days.

He was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township and attended school at Viola Center in Audubon County. After completing his education he helped his father farm and was an automobile mechanic. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 25, 1942.

On January 14, 1943, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Boehme Sheets in Maryville, Missouri. He was discharged from the service on August 19, 1943, and returned to Audubon as an automobile mechanic. In 1951 they moved to Canoga Park, California where they lived until they moved back to Audubon in May of 1976. Evelyn died on October 28, 1976. Herman continued to work as a mechanic until he retired in 1984. He was a member of Audubon Post 120, American Legion, Audubon, Iowa.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife was a stepson, Conner L. Sheets; his parents; his brothers: Mark, Max and Lester Paulsen; a sister-in-law, Ethel Paulsen; and a brother-in-law, Robert Goddard.

Survivors include his step-son and wife, Dean and Sharlot Sheets of Simi Valley, California; step-daughter-in-law, Virginia Sheets of Canoga Park, California; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; one step-great great grandchild; his brothers and sister and their spouses: Marvin Paulsen of Coon Rapids, Iowa; Henry and Lucille Paulsen of Harlan, Iowa; Lily Goddard of Manning, Iowa; and Alvin and Bessie Paulsen of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family of Mr. Paulsen appreciates the many expressions of sympathy and concern. Everyone is invited to meet with them in the church basement following the committal service.
