Herman P. Mundt,
Long Time Resident Was Active In Early Life Of Manning
Mr. Mundt had been in very ill health for the past three months, and a little over two months ago he suffered a stroke which, in addition to other complications caused his death which occurred December 30, 1939, just six weeks after his wife had passed away.
Mr. Mundt had been a resident of Manning and this vicinity for approximately fifty years, coming to this county in 1883. He was born in Fiefbergen in the Probstie, Holstein, Germany on December 15, 1860 and came to the United State and to Clinton County, Iowa at the age of 6 years and then came to Carroll County. After farming north of Manning for a while, he moved to Manning where he had lived for the last remaining years of his life.
Mr. Mundt was president of the old German Savings Bank here for many years. This bank is now the Manning Trust & Savings Bank.
He was married on November 6, 1883, to Miss Catherine Ronfeldt in Clinton County. Mrs. Mundt died November 18, 1939.
Mr. and Mrs. Mundt were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Emil Martens (Melinda) who passed away July 18, 1926.
Surviving are five grandchildren Mrs. Eddie Meggers (Irene) Earl and Virtus Martens Mrs. Carl Schrum (Dorothy), all of Manning and Clarence Martens of California.
Pallbearers were four grandsons: Earl Marten's, Virtus Martens, Eddie Meggers, Carl Schrum; and two nephews: Elmer Schroeder, and Fred P. Hansen.
Burial was in the Hayes Township cemetery.
