Herman Meyer, youngest son of Christian and Elizabeth (Wested) Meyer was born in Cook County, Illinois February 14, 1872, and died at his home Thursday, September 26, 1957, following a heart attack at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 12 days.
The family lived in Nebraska one year before moving to Walnut, Iowa. After several years farming near Walnut the family moved to Manilla.
October 28, 1914, he was united in marriage to Minnie Husmann of Manning. They lived on several farms near Manilla until 1933 when they moved to town.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie, one son, Alvin of Rollins, Wyoming, five daughters: Mrs. Bernice (John) Butts of Harlan, Mrs. Elizabeth (Leo) Densmore of Lohrville, Mrs. Minnie (John) Moran of Lohrville, Mrs. Ora (Floyd) Mullins of Paton, and Berdella at home and seventeen grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Henry and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Frank.
Funeral services were held at the Ohde Funeral Home at Manning Sunday, September 29, 1957, with Rev. Richard Rowe officiating.
Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Irwin.
Pallbearers were Harold Olson, Alfred Bargenquast, James Calvin, Ed Bargenquast, Floyd Grage, and John Bargenquast.
