HENRY WILLIAM VINKE
Funeral services for Henry William Vinke were held Saturday, August 12, 1989,
at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Robert Riggert
officiated the service with Fern Jensen as organist and
Margaret Backhaus as vocalist. Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery with
Victor Schwiesow, Larry Sievertsen, Wayne Elwell, Donald Koch, David Walters,
and Allen Walters serving as casket-bearers.
Henry, son of Gustav and Mary (Karsten) Vinke, was born October 31, 1900, near Manning, Iowa. He attended rural school in that area. Henry was confirmed on March 29, 1944, and became a member of Zion Lutheran Church. On February 25, 1925, he was united in marriage with Malinda Walter in Denison. They farmed northwest of Manning where they lived for 26 years. In 1951 they purchased a home in Manning where they lived for 29 years. In May of 1980 they sold their home and moved to the Terrace Apartments. Henry worked for Dultmeier Lumber Company and at the VFW Hall. Malinda passed on August 5, 1985.
Henry became a resident of the Manning Plaza in July of 1989, and died there on Wednesday, August 9, 1989, at the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 9 days.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Julius Vinke and LeRoy Vinke; and by two sisters, Lena Schwiesow and Amelia Weinbrandt.
Henry is survived by the following brothers and sisters-in-law: Cecil Sievertsen, of Harlan; Charles and Arlene Elwell, of Charter Oak; Ivan and Florence Walters, of Worthington, Minnesota; and Marian Walters, of Council Bluffs; and by many nieces and nephews.
