One of the first settlers of Manning died last Tuesday night at 7 o'clock in his old home, the home he built in 1881, when only a few were here.
Mr. Vogt was born in 1844 in Germany. In 1864 he became a soldier and was in the war of 1866, and in the French war in 1870 to 1871. He came to this country in 1881 with his family and settled here in Manning, where he has lived ever since. He was sick only two weeks and his death came unexpected. A wife, two sons and four daughters are left behind in mourning.
The funeral services will be held at the Germania Hall Friday afternoon at two o'clock: Mr. Vogt was one of the founders of the Manning Schuetzen Verein, which society, and the Krieger Verein (German military society) will take part in the funeral procession. The interment will be at the Iowa Township Cemetery.
