Henry, son of Claus and Emma Kai Thomssen, was born November 8, 1909, in Shelby County, Iowa. He attended the country schools in Shelby and Crawford Counties.
Henry was united in marriage with Florence Schroeder on April 5, 1933, and this union was blessed with four children. They farmed in the Manilla and Manning area until the early 1970s when they moved into Aspinwall. Henry has been in failing health for the past couple of years and passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 7, 1978, at the age of 69 years and 29 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Florence and by the following children: Darlyne (Mrs. Edward Dahleen) of Denison; Larry of Manilla; Judy (Mrs. LeRoy Lingle) of Manilla; and Jean (Mrs. James Christensen) of Denison.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, a brother, Merle of Manilla and two sisters, Verna (Mrs. Pete Jurgensen) of Manilla and Estella (Mrs. Lester Schrum) of Manilla, as well as by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9, 1978, at 2:30 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.
Officiating was Pastor Victor Hoyer of Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla. Organist was Carl Sinning with Mrs. Judy Joens as soloist.
Interment was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steven Lingle, Brent Thomssen, Jeff Christensen, Bruce Dahleen, Harold Jurgensen, and Roy Schilling.
Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
