HENRY SCHROEDER
Henry Schroeder was born May 6, 1909, the son of Charles and Margaret (Schultz) Schroeder. He died Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-nine.
Henry was born in Manning, Iowa and was baptized in Christ and later confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. He received his education at the Iowa Township No. 2 School and the Aspinwall Community School.
On January 15, 1936, Henry was united in marriage to Hertha Petersen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Harlan, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm north of Aspinwall, farming there for thirty-eight years, before moving to Manilla. After retiring from farming, Henry began working for Dr. Merrick, remaining with him for ten years. In 1996, the couple moved to Denison to make their home.
Henry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla. He loved farming and raising cattle and hogs. In his leisure time Henry enjoyed fishing and reading, especially, archeology.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Dan Kuchel in 1979 and one son-in-law, Howard Kuchel in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Hertha of Denison; two daughters, Deloris Newland and her husband, Jim of Woodbine; Margaret Kuchel of Webster City; one son, Roger Schroeder of Thayer, Iowa; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Fuss of Marceline, Missouri; Gertrude Mork of Manilla; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Monday, November 30, 1998, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Iowa Township Cemetery in Aspinwall, Iowa. Ruth Joens provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were: Raymond Irlbeck, Bernice Jorgensen, Billy Wanninger, Jerry Schroeder, Michael Kuchel and David Kuchel.
The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies of the congregation. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
