Henry P.F. Peters, 86, a retired tavern and cafe operator here, died Saturday, April 24, 1982, at the Manning General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Dorothy Kusel will be organist. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg, Denny, Doug, Kurt, and Kim Peters, Scott and Brad Nobiling and Tim Kraus. Burial, under the direction of the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning, will be in the Westside Cemetery.

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife Esther, Manning; the following children; Vernon, Wall Lake; Arlene Noack, Brownsville, Texas; Lester, Harlan; Ronald, Ames; Mrs. Donald (Betty) Nobiling, Westside; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, his first wife Celia Bauer and a son Ray who died May 4, 1978.

Mr. Peters was born in Hamburg, Germany, December 25, 1895, a son of Wilhelm and Maria (nee Schultz) Peters. He was married to Celia Bauer September 26, 1917. She died on October 22, 1934. He was married April 19, 1938, to Esther Vetter.

He was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church in Hamburg on June 4, 1899, and was confirmed in the same church in March of 1910. He received his early education in Germany. In 1912, at the age of 16, he came to the United States, settling first at Arcadia. He made his home in Westside until 1940 when he moved to Manning and operated Peters Tavern and Cafe (The Corner - "Der Eck"). He retired in December of 1975. He was a member of the Westside Community Club, the American Skat Club, Zion Lutheran congregation, and the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein.
