HENRY P. MUNDT, SR.
Henry P. Mundt, Sr., was born November 15, 1866, at Stackendorf, Germany. He came to this country when he was 17 years, old.

He was married on February 8, 1900, to Mary Hansen and to this union seven children were born. Mr. Mundt had lived at his present farm for the last 58 years, and the last 15 years his son, August, has farmed it.

He passed away at his home about five miles north of Manning, early on the morning of Monday, January 18, 1954, after a short illness. He lived to the age of 87 years, two months, and three days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and six children, namely, Milda, Mrs. Lee Copeland of Manilla; Henry P. Mundt, Jr., at home; Kathryn at home; Annie, Mrs. William Gehlsen of Manning, August of Manning, and Louis of Manning. There are also nine grandchildren. A brother, Johannes, survives in Germany.

Henry, Jr. and Louis were in the armed services in World War II and his oldest grandson, Billie D. Gehlsen, is now stationed in Munich, Germany.

Mr. Mundt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany.

Services were held Wednesday, January 20, at the Ohde Funeral Home. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Last rites were conducted by the Rev. James G. Walls, pastor of the Methodist Church in Manning. A quartette provided the music. Pallbearers were Louie Tank, Herman Mohns, Vertus Martens, Albert Joens, Walter Martens, Detlef Martens.
