H. W. MEYERS,
PROMINENT RESIDENT, DIES

Henry Wickes Meyers, well-known retired farmer, died of hemorrhage of the liver at his borne here at 5:30 Friday morning alter an illness of only two days. However, he had not been in the best of health for some months. He would have been seventy-eight years of age, December 3, 1941.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday, afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home, where the body rested until the time of the rites. Rev. McDanel of the Presbyterian church at Carroll, conducted the services.

Casket bearers were Herman Ahrendsen, Jene Sonksen, Henry A. Boysen, Henry J.M. Hansen, Dr. J.J. Sinn and Peter F. Hansen.

Mr. Meyers was born December, 3, 1863, in Emden Germany. When he was three years old he came to America with his parents, who settled in Iowa. Fifty-one years ago he bought the farm five miles north and one mile and a quarter east of Manning, on which his son, Alfred, now lives. He operated this farm until 1902, when he moved to his farm one mile east of Manning which was the family home until his retirement in 1913. The family has lived at Manning since that time. Mr. Meyers has been a resident of Carroll county for sixty-eight years.

May 30, 1888, Mr. Meyers was married to Miss Anna Hansen of this vicinity. The ceremony took place at the Wheatland township Presbyterian Church, with the late Rev. L. Huendling officiating.

May 30, 1939, Mr. and Mrs. Meyers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Surviving with his wife are six children; Tina, at home; Mrs. Frank Hoffmann (Hilma), Westside; Henry E. Meyers, Manning; Marvin M. Meyers, Omaha; Alfred H. Meyers, on the old home farm, and Mrs. R. B, Kelsey (Florence), of Manning, who is at present with her husband, Lieut. Kelsey, at Hattiesburg, Miss.

There are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Meyers also leaves the following sisters and brothers: Mr. Emil Meyers and Mrs. George Auen (Bertha), Lake View, Mrs. Mary Auen, Sioux Falls, S. D.; Margaret Kriens, Hartford, S. D., and F. A. Meyers, Carroll.

One daughter, Mrs. Leo H. Kleespies (Ida) died about five years ago. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Sophie Hoogestraat, Mrs. Minnie Schoenabaum, Mrs. Ida Auen and Mrs. Tena Wells.

Mr. Meyers was a member of the Wheatland Township Presbyterian Church.
He was one of the directors of the Manning Trust & Savings Bank.

Mrs. Virgil Kleespies of Sioux Falls, S.D., sang at the rites. Music was also furnished by a male quartet composed of Henry Hagedorn, Henry Kleespies, A.C. Lee and C.M. Johnson.
Mrs. H. W. Hagedorn was the accompanist.


Henry Meyers is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
