Rites Held for Henry Martens

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Ohde Funeral Home for Henry Martens, 75, who died Thursday, January 26, 1950, at the Tryon Nursing home in Carroll. Mr. Martens, Who had been ill for some time, had undergone surgery at Iowa City in August 1949.

The Rev. Brown Garlock, minister of the Methodist Church, officiated at the rites.

Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were Grover Bartels, Albert Summerfeldt, John Mundt, Henry Petersen, John J. Junge, and Peter H. Jones.

Mr. Martens, son of William and Margaret (Ewoldt) Martens, was born July 31, 1874, in Moline, Illinois. When he was a small child, the family came to Clinton, Iowa, moving from there to a farm in Crawford County.

In 1912, Mr. Martens and his mother moved into Manning. He had lived in his present home the last 26 years.

Mr. Martens, who was unmarried, leaves three brothers and one sister: Gus Martens, Carroll; William, Manning; Harry, Buck Grove, and Mrs. Dick Fonken (Emelia), Manning.

His parents, two brothers, Richard, and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Ruhde, preceded him in death.

Mr. Martens was baptized in the Lutheran faith.
