HENRY CARL SCHRUM

Funeral services for Henry Carl Schrum were held Tuesday, February 5, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Paul Krumm officiated with Fern Jensen as organist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Don Schrum, Robert Kruse, Don Swerczek, Brad Swerczek, Frenz Lohrmann and Doug Kruse as casketbearers.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Henry, son of Heinrich and Catherine Elizabeth (Bade) Schrum, was born February 22, 1908, at Manning, Iowa. He attended school in Manning and Aspinwall.

Henry was employed at the Manning Creamery Company and at Manning Oil Company. On October 19,1949, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Dowel. They made their home in Manning until 1957, when they moved to Mountain View, California. Here, Henry was employed by the Varian Company as a custodian. He retired in the early 1970's. Henry's wife died October 21, 1973.

Henry returned to Manning in 1981 and made his home with his sister Alma Frahm. On January 1 of this year he moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. He died there unexpectedly on Sunday morning, February 3, 1985, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 11 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, William; two sisters, Margaret Oeser and Minnie Kruse; and by a sister, Martha, in infancy and a twin brother, Carl, in infancy.

He is survived by two sisters, Alma Frahm of Manning, and Leona Babl and her husband, Leo of Rock Rapids, Iowa; by a brother-in-law, William Kruse of Manning; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Henry enjoyed his retirement years in Manning, the company of friends and relatives was important to him. He was an avid golfer and was active until the onset of cold weather this fall.


Henry Schrum is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
