MRS. HELENA SCHMIDT
Mrs. Helena Christine Schmidt, 91, died at her home in Manning Saturday evening, January 15, 1966.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Zion Lutheran Church here, of which she was a member, with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. The body is at her home in South Manning and will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday. Arrangements are in charge of the Ohde Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Walter Ullerich, Frank Musfeldt, Henry Peters, Alfred Kuhl, Harry Hinz, and William Joens.

Mrs. Schmidt was born on the Island of Alsen, Denmark, October 27, 1874, a daughter of Christopher and Anna (Earbach) Wiese.

She came to the United States with her parents in June 1882, and settled in Connecticut. Two years later she came to the Manning community; and with the exception of two years spent in South Dakota, she spent the rest of her life here.

Her marriage to Johannes Friederich Schmidt took place January 4, 1899. They farmed near Manning and moved into town in 1935. Mr. Schmidt died July 4, 1958; and since then she made her home with her son Chris.

She is survived by four children: Chris, at home; Mrs. Albert A. (Rosa) Puck, Denison; Mrs. Edwin (Helen) Grimm, Manilla; and Emil, Westside; 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were three children, Willis infancy; Hannes, in 1924; and Henry, in 1934; a sister, Mary, in Denmark; three brothers, Christian, Fred, and Nels Wiese; a half-brother, Peter Wiese; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mamie (Opperman) Schmidt.

Note: another source states Anna's maiden name is Frederiksen.
Her husband, Christoffer's obituary lists her as Anna Bergmann.
So this needs to be determined from other sources.
