Mrs. Hans Moller

Manning's oldest citizen, Mrs. Hans Moller, who would have been 99 in September, died at her home in Manning at 7 p.m. Wednesday. She had been ill about six weeks ago but after two weeks apparently had recovered until she complained of a pain in her back Wednesday. She was in a coma for several hours before she died.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ohde Funeral Home with the Rev. Brown Garlock of Corning, former minister of the Manning Methodist Church, officiating Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mrs. Molter was born Abel Helena Kruse in Stakendorf, Probstei, Holstein, Germany, September 29, 1858. She came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kruse, at the age of seven, making a seven-week trip by sailboat across the Atlantic Ocean.

The family first settled near DeWitt in Clinton County where they lived until 1872, coming to Crawford County by covered wagon, a journey of about three weeks. They lived north of Denison one year, and then purchased a farm in Hayes Township.

She was married to Hans Moller June 1, 1878. The couple farmed in Carroll County for 24 years. In 1902, they moved to a farm three miles north of Manning, where they lived until they retired and moved to Manning in 1917. Mr. Molter died February 9, 1931. They had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on June 1, 1928.

Five children survive, all, of whom will be in Manning for the funeral. They are Mrs. Amanda Lage, Redlands, California; Mrs. Katie Sander, Manning; Mrs. Henrietta Petersen, Manning; John Moller, Okoboji; and Herman Moller, Norfolk, Nebraska. Thirteen grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Moller celebrated her birthday with open house each year.
