Funeral services for Helen F. Wallace were held Tuesday, May 21, 1991, at 10:00 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert of Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, officiated the service with Paula Weiss as organist. Interment was held in Villisca City Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa with Leroy Koester, Dallas Brown, Joe Sonksen, Charles V. Hines, Robert Brood and Hugo Ress as honorary casketbearers.
Helen, daughter of Hans and Rose Steen Pfoltner, was born June 25, 1910 in Shelby County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a youth and was re-confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1978 at Manning. Helen attended rural schools.
February 14, 1928, Helen was united in marriage with Russell P. Wallace at Manning. They made their home in various places in Iowa, including Waterloo for several years; they also spent several years in Austin, Minnesota. After World War II they settled on a dairy farm near Brainerd, Minnesota. After her husband's death, Helen returned to Manning in 1978 and made her home in the Elm Crest Apartments. In 1983 she moved to Rockwell, Iowa, to be near her son, Larry. She spent four years in an apartment there, finally moving to the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. She died there on Saturday, May 18, 1991 at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 23 days.
Besides her husband Helen was preceded in death by her parents; by two brothers, Harry and George Pfoltner; by a sister, Irene Marie Hagedorn; and by a sister in infancy.
Survivors include her son, Larry Wallace and his wife, Carol, of Rockwell; a sister-in-law, Jean Pfoltner, of Manning; one aunt, Alma Schelldorf, of Manning; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Helen held membership in the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
