Last Rites For Mrs. Ed Miller
Friends and relatives filled the main part of the Congregational Church to capacity as well as the social and Sunday School rooms for the funeral services for Mrs. E.E. Miller held last Friday afternoon. A fitting tribute to one who had given of her time and strength to church and home, relatives and friends.

The Rev. R.R. Diede officiated at the services using as his text St. John 10:27.28 and "The Shepherding Christ," as his sermon topic. Music was furnished by a men's quartet composed of Bill, Bob, and Tom Chilvers and Burton Andersen with Mrs. L.D. Martelle at the organ.

Mrs. Miller died suddenly of a heart attack on August 3, 1948, at her home as she sat on a davenport reading a letter and was found by her daughter, Helen.

She was very active in the Congregational Church of which she has been a member since March 25, 1934, and in the Order of the Eastern Star.

Hattie Plahn was born August 8, 1907, at Manning, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Plahn, Sr. She came to Nebraska with her parents in 1910 and they made their home on a ranch near Pierce. She attended the Pierce rural schools and spent her lifetime in Pierce County.

She was united in marriage to Ezra Edward Miller on March 29, 1927, at Pierre. They made their home on a farm three miles northwest of Pierce, and where their three children were born: Harvey, Harold, and Helen. The family moved to the city of Pierce in February 1944, and has since made their home here.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harold, in 1940; two sisters: Carolina (Mrs. Emil) Karstens of Manning, Iowa, in 1922; and Emilia (Mrs. Emil) Miller of Pierce, in December 1947.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, E.E Miller; one son, Harvey, and a daughter, Helen, twin sister, Hilda (Mrs. Henry) Zauner of Tilden, Nebraska; two other sisters: Anna (Mrs. Emil) Altwine, Pierre, and Emma (Mrs. AI) Sattler, Brooklyn, New York; and three brothers, William Plahn, Jr., Norfolk; Henry Plahn, Plainview; and Herman Plahn, Pierce.

The Eastern Star service was held at the side of the casket which was banked with many beautiful floral tributes.

Burial took place in Prospect View Cemetery, Pierce, Nebraska, with Ervin Kolterman, A.P. Gottsche, C.H. Chilvers, William H. Lea, and G.B. Gould as pallbearers. The members of the O.E.S. and the Girl Scout Troop, of which Helen is a member, formed a guard of honor as the funeral procession left the church.

Out-of-town relatives present from a distance for the last rites included Mr. Miller's sisters, Miss Edith Miller and Etta (Mrs. Hugh O.) Thompson of Washington, D.C., his brothers: Roy Miller of Oxford, Ohio; and Carl Miller of Avon, Illinois. Also present were E.J. Hanlin, Shirley, Illinois; Mrs. Frances McConkey, Peoria, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Harold & Bernice (Karstens) Schroeder, Manning, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Reikofski, Tilden; and Mr. and Mrs. William Plahn and daughter of Norfolk.
