Funeral services for Harry S. West were held Tuesday, June 30, 1987, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Pastor Sushil Joseph of United Methodist Church in Manning officiated the service. Carolyn Miller was vocalist with Joann Karsten as organist. Interment was in the Carroll City Cemetery in Carroll with Jack Lorenzen, Gene McCollum, Cliff Tank, Orren Ramsey, Charles Rauch, and Wayne Curlile as casketbearers. Masonic Memorial service was held Monday, June 29, 1987, at 8:00 p.m. in Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Harry, son of Lewis Edwin and Millie Edna (Sallman) West, was born January 4, 1905, at Corydon, Iowa. He attended Corydon schools and was graduated from Corydon High School in 1923. He also attended school at Simpson College.
December 17, 1933, Harry was united in marriage with Louise Emmick of Carroll, Iowa. They made their home in Ft. Madison and Burlington, Iowa; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and various localities in Texas until retiring to Manning in 1972. Harry was employed by General Telephone of the Southwest. With this company Harry held many different managerial positions but mainly his job was that of a trouble shooter.
Harry's wife, Louise, died in June of 1977. Harry continued to make his home at 1011 S. Elm until this spring when he entered the Manning General Hospital. From the hospital Harry moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where he died Saturday morning, June 27, 1987, at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 23 days.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Mary Alice.
Harry is survived by his son, Bill West and his wife, Sarah, of Littleton, Colorado; by two granddaughters, Jennifer and Lisa (Sarah E.) both of Littleton, Colorado; and by his brother, Ed West and his wife, Mary of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In earlier years Harry was always interested in civic affairs where he lived and was always a member of local civic organizations. He also held membership in the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine, as well as the Methodist Church. Harry was a member of United Methodist Church in Manning.
