HARRY L. STOFFERS

Harry L. Stoffers was born July 28, 1913, to Fred and Sophie Stoffers at Westside, Iowa. He was the third oldest child of six. He attended school in Arcadia, Iowa.

On November 27, 1935, Harry married Adele Rix and to this union one daughter, Harriet, was born.

Harry and Adele farmed for 18 years, but Harry loved to work on engines. So he took a course on the repair of diesel engines and moved to Storm Lake to obtain a position building roads and repairing engines at the Nash Garage. In 1957 they moved to Ft. Dodge, Iowa, where he became employed by the Gibbs Cook Construction Co. He soon became one of their top troubleshooters on diesel engines. In 1966 Harry and Adele relocated to West Islip, New York to be near their daughter and four grandchildren. He gained employment with the H.O. Penn Equipment Co., where he soon rose to the rank of Foreman.

In the fall of 1979, due to ill health, Harry was forced to retire and moved to the Lost Dutchman Mobile Home Park in Apache Junction, Arizona. He has resided there since.

Harry's hobbies and organizations included: Cabinet making and other types of woodworking, President of the Arcadia School Board, Elder in the Arcadia Presbyterian Church, Elder in the West Islip Presbyterian Church, and Elder in the John Calvin Presbyterian Church.

Harry passed away April 28, 1997, at the Desert Samaritan Health Care Center at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adele; daughter Harriet and her husband Vincent Stolfi; four grandchildren Valerie, Deborah, Douglas, and Michael; five great grandchildren Danielle, David, Kimberly, Steven, and Tiffany; brothers, Elmer and Henry and sister Ruby Hunter. He is also survived by sister-in-law Martha Freese of Arcadia, Iowa, and brother and sister-in-law Bill and Edna Rix of Apache Junction, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
