Harriet "Hazel" E. Stahl

Hazel Stahl, 91, died Monday night, January 25, 1993, at the Manning Plaza after being a resident for eight years. She had been in failing health the last few months.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Friday, January 29, 1993. Ohde Funeral Home was in charge with Father Reinhart officiating.

Casketbearers were Joe Sonksen, Roger Vollstedt, Ron Hiatt, Curtis Grimm, Alan Grimm and Al Jensen. A rosary led by Father Reinhart and a prayer service were held Thursday, January 28.

Hazel was born August 10, 1901, in Manning, the daughter of John and Anna (Macke) Foster. She attended the Manning Schools.

On June 10, 1920, she was married to Labert Stahl. The couple lived in the Manning area where they farmed until the 1930s when the moved to town. For many years, Hazel worked at the Bob Kuhl Cafe. In 1978 Mr. Stahl died.

Hazel was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. For many years she enjoyed league bowling, skating, and especially the pinochle club she belonged to.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Labert; one son, Leslie; one sister, Bernice Crotty; three brothers: Arnold, Art and Harold; and one half-brother, Herbert.

Hazel is survived by two sons: Labert Stahl Jr. "Bud", and his wife, Marge, and Kenneth Stahl of Manning; two daughters: Phyllis, Mrs. Joe Henderson, of San Diego, California and Shirley, Mrs. Leonard Frahm, of Raeford, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Pierce of Bellflower, California; one half-sister, Helen, Mrs. Art Longtin of Norfolk, Virginia.
