Mrs. Martin spent her childhood on a farm near Irwin, where she was born in 1871. Later the family moved in Manning when, she was graduated from high school with the class of 1890. She spent the next few years teaching in Carroll County rural schools and in the Manning Grade School.
Then she decided to go west and take up a homestead. She also continued to teach. She settled in Montana and there met and married N.L. Martin. To this union two children were born, Robert J. and Harriet.
Robert, who had been serving in the United States Army in Australia for many months, was recently returned to the United States on sick leave and placed in a hospital in California. He was there only a few weeks when he was sent to a hospital in Texas. During the transfer he was given a 21-day furlough which he spent at home. He had just left for Texas and could not be located at the time of his mother's death.
Mrs. Martin was a charter member of the Manning Woman's Club and of Salona Chapter number 231, O.E.S. of Manning. She belonged to the Manning Presbyterian Church.
She leaves her husband, her two children, one grandson and an only sister, Mrs. Frank Kempf, (Ida), of Danbury, Iowa.
Her parents and one sister, Mrs. Azubah Pollack, preceded her in death.
Interment will be in Mountview Cemetery, Billings, Montana.
