HANS MATTHIESSEN
Hans Matthiessen was born on April 12, 1866, in Ostenfeldt, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, son of Hans and Anna (Thiesen) Matthiessen. In the spring of 1888, he came to the United States and made Portsmouth, Iowa, his first place of residence. On September 9, 1893, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Cathrina Schneekloth and to this union three children were born, Walter, Arthur, and Agnes.

The family resided at Aspinwall, Iowa, until 1912 when they moved to a farm 11 miles southwest of Belgrade, Nebraska. Here they lived until 1919 when they moved to Fullerton where they resided until 1934 when they moved to Belgrade.

Mr. Matthiessen's wife preceded him in death on September 4, 1941. Mr. Matthiessen departed this life on Tuesday morning, October 3, 1944, having attained the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 21 days.

He is survived by three children; Arthur Matthiessen, Belgrade, Walter Matthiessen of Grand Island, and Mrs. Agnes Newquist of Belgrade. One step-daughter, Mrs. Charles Campbell of Spokane, Washington, 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Belgrade Methodist Church with the Rev. J.G. Brinkmann of the Peace Lutheran Church in charge and interment was made in the Fullerton Cemetery, Fullerton, Nebraska.
