Gustav A. Rober

Funeral services for Gustav A. Rober, 62, who died Sunday morning at Rochester, Minnesota, August 26, 1934, were held yesterday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral home, the Rev. E.J. Hough, pastor of the Manning Presbyterian Church officiating at the services which were in charge of the Manning Masonic lodge. Interment was made at the Manning Cemetery.

Gustav A. Rober, eldest son of August and Anna Rober, was born in Davenport on July 9, 1872. His father and mother died when the child was five years old, and he made his home from then on with the Strathmann family. He attended the Brown Business College at Davenport. He married Miss Dorothea Rathjen in 1895, and two years later moved to Manning.

His first business venture was with Henry Hoffman, in the clothing firm known as Messrs. Rober and Hoffmann. In 1899 this concern consolidated with the Henry Hoffmann general store and was known as Henry Hoffmann and company. Julius Wehrmann joined the partnership in 1903, and in 1915 the name Rober-Wehrmann Company originated. He was past president of the Manning school board, member of the Masonic lodge, Lion's club, the Manning Gun Club, and was active in the civic and social life of the community.

Mr. Rober is survived by his wife and the following aunts: Mrs. John Wents, Anaheim, California, and Mrs. Mary Lynch, Mrs. Strathmann and Mrs. Hoganfeldt all of Davenport.
