GLEN "RED" STRUVE
Funeral services for Glen "Red" Struve were held Saturday, September 11, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Vogel and Pastor Curt Dwyer officiated the service with Georgia Lohrmann and Karen Reinke as vocalists and Carlys Stribe as organist.

Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery with Galen Struve, Alan Doane, Lonnie Jensen, Kyle Jensen, Dale Lenz, and Craig Musfeldt as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Clifford Tank, Myron Bogatzke, Dixon Cole, Daryl Genzen, Alvan Hansen, Leonard Adams, Merlin Rostermundt and Glen Ahrendsen.

Glen William, son of George and Dora Gruhn Struve, was born September 18,1921, in Manning, Iowa. He grew up near Manning and attended rural school near his home, graduating from Manning High School in 1938. After his schooling, he continued to work on the family farm.

On September 8,1946, Glen was united in marriage with Lois R. Boldt in Arcadia. Five children were born to this union. Glen and Lois farmed the Struve family farm and in 1978 they bought the bowling alley in Manning. They moved into Manning in 1984 and sold the bowling alley in 1989.

Glen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He served as the Director for the South Crawford REC Board, was president of the Carroll County Fair Board, and was a 4-H leader for 25 years in which he held state office for one year. He was also president of the Iowa Shorthorn Association for two years.

On Friday, July 23, 1999, Glen was admitted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he died Wednesday, September 8, 1999, due to complications following surgery. He reached the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 18 days.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents; a son Cory Struve in 1983; a sister Irene Doane in 1996; a grandson Jason Bromert in 1996; and a brother-in-law Merlin Lenz in 1973.

He is survived by his wife Lois Struve of Manning; four children: Linda and her husband Thomas Bromert of Glendale, Arizona; Rhonda and her husband Ed Roberson of Denison; Curtis Struve and his wife Rexanne of Manning; Kevin Struve of Des Moines; six grandchildren: Sara Bromert of Glendale, Arizona; Christina Beyer of Denison; Eric Skive of Biloxi, Mississippi; Chad, Jaime, and Brandi Struve of Manning; five great-grandchildren; a brother Ralph Struve and his wife Velma of Irwin; a sister Fern and her husband Kenneth Jensen of Manning; his mother-in-law Loretta Boldt of Carroll; two brothers-in-law: Clarence Doane of Davenport and David Boldt and his wife, Jane of Anita; two sisters-in-law: Gloria and her husband Lester Popp of Westside, and LeeAnn and her husband Tom of Manilla; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Glen Struve is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
