Gladys B. Sonksen
Funeral services for Gladys Bernice Sonksen were held Wednesday, January
9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. Pastor H. W. Kramer
officiated the service with Jim Stock as organist. Jan Stock and Gertrude Drost were the
flower committee.
Interment was held in the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa with Gerald Beck, Stanley
Beck, Ray Dentlinger, Rich Feilmeier, Russ Mohr and Pastor Wayne Pfannkuch as casket
bearers.
Gladys Bernice Sonksen, 81, of Early, Iowa, died Saturday, January 5, 2002, at the Black Hawk Life Care Center following complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Gladys Bernice Asmus was born August 12, 1920 in Audubon County, Iowa, the daughter of William G. and Elizabeth (Jurgens) Asmus. She was baptized on November 28, 1920 and confirmed on June 23, 1935 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. Gladys attended school in Audubon County.
On January 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Herman J. J. Sonksen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Audubon County, Iowa. The couple farmed for one year in Audubon County before farming in Carroll County for 24 years. They moved to Manning, Iowa in 1965 where Gladys worked as a clerk in a hardware store. In November 1972, Gladys and Herman moved to Early, Iowa to continue Herman's work on a carpentry crew.
Gladys was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Lance Warnke.
She is survived by her husband; four children: Vernon Sonksen and his wife, Krystal Ane of San Diego, California; Joyce Warnke and her husband Ronald of Lake View, Iowa; Donna Davis and her husband Bill of Tucson, Arizona; and Debra Sonksen of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; seven grandchildren: Linda Warnke of Elkland, Missouri; Tammy Rosenberry of Granger, Iowa; Scott Sonksen of Lebanon, Missouri; Lisa Wood and Lori Smith, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and John Davis and Liam Davis, both of Tucson, Arizona; seven great-grandchidren: Mya Black, Justin and Cassie Moore, Shane and Alaina Sonksen, Gary Don Smith and Cole Rosenberry; a brother Donald Asmus and his wife, Dolores of Waseca, Minnesota; two sisters: Dorothy Reimer of Manning and Lillian Nolte of Auburn, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
