Mrs. Slates was born Gladys Jensen, daughter of Anton and Anna (Jebsen) Jensen, in Audubon County near Manning, January 14, 1906. Graduated from the Manning schools in 1924, she taught four years in rural schools of Carroll and Audubon counties.
May 5, 1928, she married Harold H. Slates of Kirkman. The greater share of their married life was spent in California. Mrs. Slates and two sons spent about a year in Manning a year ago and the sons attended the Manning Schools.
Surviving are her husband and sons, Roger, 16, and Donald, 15; also her parents of Manning, five sisters: Mrs. George H. Struve (Minnie), Mrs. Frank Musfeldt (Nora), Mrs. Otto Popp (Esther), Mrs. Clarence Grundmeier (Hulda), all of Manning, and Mrs. James Atkins (Verna), Coon Rapids, and three brothers, Fred, Albert, and Gus Jensen, all of Manning.
Mrs. Slates had been in poor health the last five years.
