Gladys, daughter of Eli Liston and Bessie Mae (Spickler) Wycoff, was born July 9, 1901, in Jefferson Township, Shelby County, Iowa. Gladys was stricken with polio when she was four years old. Even though she used crutches after her recovery she attended rural schools in Shelby County and was determined to lead as normal a life as possible. As a young woman she did housekeeping for others in the town of Botna.

On October 19, 1929, Gladys was united in marriage with Charles H. Ramsey at Denison, Iowa. She immediately began to care for his family of six children, ages 4 to 14, and they had one son of their own. They lived in Botna where Gladys was a full time homemaker and her husband was a rural mail carrier.

In the late 1950s they moved to Manning where Charles died on December 10, 1963. Gladys was a charter member of the Botna Social Club, now called the Tri-County Club.

In July of 1984 she entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. In late 1989 she entered the Manning General Hospital where she was a patient for about 12 weeks before transferring to the Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City where she died on Monday, February 12, 1990. She was 88 years, 7 months, and 3 days of age.

Besides her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by three stepchildren, Neva Hahn, William Ramsey, and Charles Donald Ramsey; by a brother and sister, twins, in infancy; by a brother, Gordon Wycoff; and by a sister, Virginia McConnell.

Gladys is survived by her son, Merlin Ramsey, of Hacienda Heights, California; by a step-daughter, Doris Rutz, of Manning; by two step-sons, Howard Ramsey, of Melbourne, Florida and Robert Ramsey, and his wife, Charlotte, of Whittier, California; by a step-daughter-in-law, Florence Ramsey, of Manning; by a sister, Norine and her husband, Milford McConnell, of Manning; by three grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
